Maui - the Valley Isle

To us the charm of Hawaii can be found in the small towns that people pass through on their way to Haleakala and the Hana Highway, tucked away in the back of strip malls and off the main streets. Here you find the people who love The Hawaiian Islands for their soul.

With well over 300 restaurants listed in the phone book for Maui it is easy to be confused and overwhelmed. We have personally eaten at the ones listed here and enjoyed them. Since we love to travel and experience new things we figure it will take us a few years to try out all the other wonderful restaurants available! So peruse to your heart and tummy's pleasure and be sure to send us any comments on your experiences…. bon appetite!

One of the hottest restaurants on Maui, they have a wide variety of foods to please everyone in the group. We had the Asian Rock Shrimp Cakes, Mango Crab Salad Roll and a variety of the sushi and it was all very good.

I give Polli's a big five whale tail salute for great Mexican food and a great waitstaff!
1202 Makawao Ave., Makawao, Maui, HI
phone: (808)572-7808   Map
Polli's is one of Maui's oldest and favorite Mexican restaurants located in the center of Makawao. They serve a wide variety of dishes, as well as burgers, salads, BBQ ribs, chicken and vegetarian dishes. The atmosphere is casual and fun.

Hula Grill
A highlight of my family's stay in Maui this last March was dining at the Hula Grill on Ka'anapali Beach. The atmosphere and the food were not to be believed! We're going back to Maui next year (2005) and one of our stops will definely be the Hula Grill!! Steve and Pam
Whalers Village , Ka'anapali, Maui, HI
phone: (808) 667-6636
Reminiscent of a 1930s Hawaiian beach house, Hula Grill features a nostalgic setting characteristic of the style conceived by renowned island architect C.W. Dickey. Its beachfront location combined with its warm koa wood walls, collection of hula girl figurines, antique koa canoes and Hawaiian memorabilia evoke memories of a more romantic Hawaii.
